This one's a little newer but Animal Crossing New Horizons! While Animal Crossing has been around for a long time (the first game being released in Japan for the Nintendo 64 on April 14, 2001), I was able to play my first Animal Crossing game on my Nintendo Switch in 2022. My island definitely isn't finished yet but I'm making progress! I would say that this game inspires more of my adult gaming journey.
Here's an example of how you can design one of your rooms in the game. With full upgrades, a player can customize 6 rooms in their home.
There are lots of ways to design islands with different themes but many people enjoy coquette/pink-themed islands. Seasonal changes are reflected in the game in real-time, allowing players to experience weather and daylight changes (as long as their switch location and date matches). Cherry blossom season (which happens in April) is one of the most popular seasons that players enjoy and rewind their switch settings to!
The official Animal Crossing page says “Furniture can also be customized with Customization Kits or since 2.0 with Cyrus. As of version 2.0. 4, New Horizons features 1,997 furniture items, with 995 of them being added in updates.”. That's a lot of design possibilities and things to collect!
